Accepting Self

Aging took its pacing to another level

slowing the rate to a reluctant pace–

crowding every moment into spans of mere minutes.

Feeling is fleeting after we’ve lost ourselves

in the senseless loss of senses

when eager hope loses focus

then, heartfelt emotion is dealt killing blows.

Heartbreak, lending to aching

and sadness that bears no escaping

become a battle worth undertaking for sake of self.

Necessary steps toward healing mean

taking a step back from attempting to be.

Stepping over process steps is the opposite of progress

when unending hopefulness might be the goal,

or perhaps just a touch of contentment.
